RHEL 6

Added by Anonymous 467 days ago

Hello,

I was wondering if usage on RHEL 6, or CENT6 /SL6, when they come out, will become supported? They are all KVM based as RH dropped xen support. Right now some of the dependencies are on the wrong version for RHEL6 supplied packages.

Libs
libgnutls-utils.so.13
libpython2.4.so.1.0
libxenstore.so.3.0

Can i safely hack around those by linking or forcing the rpm's? Probably not :)

Regards,

Albert-Jan

Hello,

We are very sorry for the inconvenience.
Karesansui Project Team are planning to support CentOS 6(x86-64) and must reconsider the dependencies of Karesansui at that time.
In the case of CentOS 6 or RHEL6, probably, no need to install packages related to Xen.

Best Regards,
Taizo

Hi,

We are very sorry for the inconvenience.

We are not planning to release the official version in the near future.
Each source code is provided as a source RPM package in a tarball of the previous release for el5. So if you recompile it and adjust the install script a little, it may work.

I experimentally made an tarball for el6(x86_64).
And a tarball of the unstable version for el6 is located on the url below:

http://karesansui-project.info/unstable/karesansui-2.0.1-2.20120118181508-install-pack.el6.tar.gz
http://karesansui-project.info/unstable/karesansui-2.0.1-2.20120118181508-install-pack.el6.tar.gz.md5
http://karesansui-project.info/unstable/karesansui-2.0.1-2.20120118181508-install-pack.el6.tar.gz.sha1

Sorry but I cannot guarantee it works well.
And there is a possibility of deleting this data without a previous notice.

Thanks

Hi,

First: Thanks a million for the sources, at least we can play with it :-)

I do know we should not complain as this is free and opensource software for which we haven't paid anything but it seems typical for most opensource projects they just got abandoned or stop support just out of the blue. I know you are building this in your spare time and just for fun but hence projects like these will never mature into a stable solution (for which people are willing to pay)... And all those unfinished products are giving opensource a bad name... I've been looking around for similar products and most of them are working half or not at all. Actually the only one that seems stable enough is proxmox... (but don't like Debian on which it is based).

Karesansui seems like a real winner (as does oVirt) but now I see you drop RH6 just like that, that's not really trustworthy for the product in the future... :-(

I'll try building it from source but since this one has never left the beta state it will be for fun and educational use only which is sad to my opinion as this looks like a really good product in the first place...

I really hope you find the time, the will and funding to continue the work on this product in the future and are able to get to a stable release for one of the most popular and important distro's there are (RH6) as Karesansui deserves it.

Regards and keep up the good work!

Bas

Dear Bas,

I am very thankful to you for your advice.

I think your criticism regarding our project is quite right and you should know that our project is not ignoring it.
However, we need additional time to to assure a strong support for CentOS 6 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
Moreover, we may have to reconsider the best way to manage the project and provide the product in the near future.

Taizo
